Ground Control Stations

ALMASpace GROUND STATION has been designed as a new solution for the satellite ground station, in order to reduce the size and increase the portability and upgradability.

The ASGS is a fully automated satellite ground station for data acquisition and space communication, based on COTS components. Its task consists in receiving and collecting data and images from satellites. That can be used for meteorological purposes or for remote sensing of fires, pollution, water, populated areas. In the meantime The Ground Station is performing the tracking of the next satellite orbit, while data and images are downloaded from the previous one. Educational institutes interest in satellite Ground Station lies in allowing the communication between satellites and human space missions such as video-conference talk with STS and ISS.

The ASGS consists of different packages designed in order to satisfy customer requirements. The structure is composed by a rack accommodating all the equipments in way of reducing the size and increasing the portability and upgradability performance as much as possible. The main package is the Basic VHF-UHF which consists of the antennas and their rotor pointing system, the RF system and its level converter, the modem, the computer and a sort of auxiliary systems. The lone Basic package offers a fully automated satellite ground station capable to track satellites, download and store data, display data in real-time.
Further packages can be joint to the basic one thus increasing station performances and enabling the acquisition of more data. Since the Packages are offered by ALMASpace the possibility exists to extend the receiving band frequency in S-Band or to acquire data from specific satellites.
